One of my friends recently asked me to be a part of a morning challenge she will be hosting sometime soon. I felt inspired to share my own mini-challenge for creating successful morning habits. Do you feel like you NEVER complete your daily to-do list? Do you feel like you never get ANYTHING accomplished? Do you CONSTANTLY feel stressed and overwhelmed?
If you’re currently struggling with your daily routine, feeling like you can’t ever get everything done, or wanting to have more time to yourself during the day, this challenge is for YOU! How do you think you could your life change for the BETTER if you woke up early for just 30 days and dedicated time to YOURSELF?
In the book The Miracle Morning, Hal Elrod reveals that the most common key habit for productive, happy people is really quite simple: GETTING UP EARLY. Whether you give yourself 15 minutes or an hour each day- that is completely up to YOU. All I ask is that you make the conscious decision to dedicate time to yourself each morning.
I want YOU to make YOURSELF a priority and enhance your life with this one change. The purpose is to inspire you to feel your best, by allowing yourself to have your own time each morning, learning to manage your time, and eventually increasing daily productivity. My goal is for each of you to work SMARTER, not HARDER!
For you, what is MOST important to incorporate into your daily routine to give you peace and energy in the mornings: Exercise, breakfast, quiet time, water consumption?
When I first changed my routine to incorporate early morning ‘me time’, it was definitely a HUGE challenge, but I made it a priority because I KNEW I had to do it for myself. I was struggling with anxiety and wasn’t happy with myself. I wanted to avoid utilizing medication if at all possible. I was overwhelmed with the responsibilities of two young children, a dog, a house, a part-time job, and a handicapped husband. I felt like I never had time for myself because I was always doing everything for everyone else. I was in over my head, and I HAD to make a change.
With guidance from a friend, I made the decision to become an early riser over 2 years ago—Summer 2016. My kids are early risers as well, so I needed to allow myself time while they were still asleep. I knew that if I waited until the end of the day, I wouldn’t have anything left of myself to give TO myself. So, early mornings it was. BUT- I will admit, at first, I missed my alarm numerous times. I had to set my alarm to go off every 5 minutes for half an hour to ensure that I wouldn’t sleep right through it. I often did NOT want to get out of bed, especially during the cold winter months. But life is full of choices. I made the choice to become an early riser. So, I did. I became one.
Over time, it became easier, and it eventually turned into a habit, and now I LOVE having that time to myself. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment before anyone else in my family even wakes up! I seriously do NEED that time. I CRAVE that time. I WANT that time.
YOU have to make the choice for yourself. Are you READY? If so, here’s a 3 day challenge for you to try!
Day 1 of Morning Challenge…BREAKFAST!
Eating breakfast is an important part of your morning routine!
A nutritious, substantial breakfast can provide these benefits:
*Improved concentration and performance throughout the day
*More strength and endurance for physical activity
*Assists in long-term weight loss and maintenance
*Provides energy
I know we are ALL busy...here are some ideas for quick and easy breakfasts! I recommend preparing 'grab and go' breakfasts on the weekend or in the evening!
*Protein shakes/meal replacement shakes
*Overnight oats
*Yogurt with fresh fruit
*Hard boiled egg sliced onto an English muffin
*Egg and veggie 'muffins'
What's YOUR favorite go-to breakfast?
*Name one thing that you are GRATEFUL for today!
Day 2 of Morning Challenge…SELF-LOVE!
Today, I challenge you to do two things:
1. Create your daily manifesto. What positive thoughts will you tell yourself IMMEDIATELY when you wake up in the morning? Share your manifesto with us, if you are comfortable!
2. Spend 10-15 minutes of 'quiet time' with yourself doing personal development. This may include {but not limited to!}.....prayer, journaling, making a gratitude list, reading for pleasure, listening to podcasts, or meditation. Completely up to you!
Just a few suggestions of my favorites:
*Podcasts {Earn your Happy, The Chalene Show, Optimal Living Daily, Tiny Lea;ps Big Changes}
*Books {You are a Badass, Girl Boss, Reshaping it All}
*Yoga stretches (Downward dog, Cobra, Child's pose, Seated twist, Cobbler}
*Name one thing that you are GRATEFUL for today!
Day 3 of Morning Challenge…EXERCISE!
Morning exercise provides positive benefits to your health!
*Enhances your metabolism
*Improves physical and mental energy
*Develops self-discipline
*Helps you sleep better
When waking up early to exercise, motivate yourself by choosing exercise that you ENJOY. It can be anything from 15 minutes of walking to 60 minutes of weight lifting- that's YOUR choice. If you HATE your exercise routine, your body will not respond positively because it will feel stressed!
What is your FAVORITE type of exercise, and how did you move your body today?
*Name one thing that you are GRATEFUL for today!
YOU DID IT! Now...KEEP GOING! It takes 21 days to form a habit. Can you wake up earlier (even just 30 minutes!) for THREE WEEKS? You can. You can do ANYTHING if you set your mind to it. GOOD luck and GOOD morning!
