'Aging is for people who don't know any better.'-Tony Horton
(Early 20s----Early 30s)
Today is not only Transformation Tuesday, but also the Eve of my 2 year ‘Fit-aversary’!
Two years ago, I made a life-changing decision for myself. I honestly am not even sure what I was thinking, but now I know about Mel Robbins and her 5 second rule related to decision-making. ‘You can’t control how you feel. But you can always choose how you act’- Mel Robbins. I committed to 60 days of Insanity—exercising 6 days a week, following a set workout calendar. I committed to waking up every morning before the sun (and before my kids!). Little did I know how much of an impact those choices would have on me….
Over the last two years, I have….
*Exercised in the early morning 6 days a week consistently, with only 2 exceptions: my England trip and the two weeks following my burn accident
*Erased the words ‘I can’t’ from my vocabulary (because really, what I meant by that was ‘I don’t want to….’)
*Ditched the 1990’s mentality that ‘fat is bad’ and learned to embrace and enjoy eating healthy fats
*Completely changed my taste buds and given up a serious food addition (cheese!)
*Become a plant-based eater who truly enjoys what I eat
*Experimented often in the kitchen, discovered numerous modifications to traditional meals, and created new recipes…some good, some not so good (#itiswhatitis)
*Learned more about my body and how it functions best, related to food, exercise, self-care, and sleep
*Realized that there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to health and wellness—everyone is different, and everyone’s body has different needs!
*Read and listened to personal development books and podcasts in my quest for self-love
*Researched about new interests in the wellness field
*Completed 11 full fitness programs and 3 mini week-long programs
*Gained weight…and lost weight…and gained and lost it again (#truthbomb)
*Discovered new muscles I never knew I could build
*Moved past the idea that ‘I’m uncoordinated and can’t do any exercise besides running’…. and also fell in love with lifting weights
*Struggled with eating habits, anxiety, hormone imbalances (including a PCOS diagnosis), and healing from an injury
*Encouraged others and supported their health journeys
*Accepted that not everyone will support your path, and what really matters is that I believe in myself
*Hopefully encouraged my children and set a positive example for them about taking care of ourselves
*Learned to appreciate myself for who I am—the good, the bad, and the ugly
*Grown to LOVE the health and fitness field, and am interested in eventually working in the fitness realm in some capacity
Just imagine. What can YOU do in 2 years? Where can you BE in 2 years? How can your life CHANGE in 2 years? Make a choice today, and ACT! Small changes over time add up to make a huge impact on your life. Remember, the important focus is the journey, NOT the destination. Just keep going. Continue moving forward. One day at a time. YOU.GOT.THIS.
